Ahréns Åkeri celebrates 50 years and paves the way for a sustainable future together with AddSecure
Ahréns Åkeri, a family business rooted in Södertälje Sweden, celebrates 50 years in 2024. The company began its journey in 1974 when Lars Ahrén drove ABBA’s tour bus during their European tour after their Eurovision victory. Since then, Ahréns Åkeri has grown into an international haulage company with a fleet of over 100 vehicles and 140 employees, providing transport across Northern Europe. Its clients include some of Sweden’s largest companies such as AstraZeneca, Scania, and PostNord.
Today, Ahréns Åkeri is led by Lars’ daughter, Susanne Ahrén, who has steered the company into a new era focused on sustainability and efficiency. A key step in this journey is the partnership with AddSecure, whose innovative solutions have helped Ahréns Åkeri optimize its operations and achieve significant fuel savings.
Scania’s solution is good, for their part, but since we also have other trucks, we need one system, a system that works for everything

Efficiency and fuel savings with AddSecure Co-Driver
In 2018, Ahréns Åkeri decided to take a comprehensive approach to fuel savings and more efficient driving. By implementing AddSecure Co-Driver, the company has reduced its fuel consumption by 7%. Using screen-based real-time feedback, drivers receive clear instructions and can adjust their driving style to be more fuel-efficient and sustainable.
“We see a clear difference since we started using AddSecure Co-Driver. With screens that provide real-time feedback to drivers, we can plan and optimize trips better, leading to significant savings for both the environment and the company,” says Thim Andersson, Traffic Manager/Work Environment Manager, Ahréns Åkeri.
AddSecure Co-Driver also provides detailed reports on idling and speeding, empowering management with tools to continuously improve operations. “Drivers receive personal reports every week with feedback on their driving. This allows us to continually work towards even better results,” says Susanne Ahrén, CEO of Ahréns Åkeri.
Challenges and the transition to fossil-free transport
The transport industry has changed radically in recent years, with a focus today on sustainability and efficiency. For Ahréns Åkeri, it’s about balancing customer demands for fast deliveries with sustainability goals and environmental requirements. Certifications and standards, such as ISO, are now crucial to continuing operations in the market. At the same time, increasing demands on departure and arrival times mean that the margins for deviations are getting smaller, requiring high levels of planning and logistics.
Like many other players in the transport industry, Ahréns Åkeri faces major challenges in transitioning to fossil-free transport. The company has tested several alternative fuels, including RME and gas, but Ahréns Åkeri sees electric trucks as the future. Much of the transition is driven by the company’s largest customer, AstraZeneca, which has set the goal that all internal transport should be fossil-free by 2025.
“We have already started investing in electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. It’s a big transition, but we’ve always been ahead of the curve and want to be ready for the future,” says Susanne Ahrén. The company has installed powerful charging stations to ensure it has enough electricity to support a growing fleet of electric trucks.
AddSecure’s role in technological development
In addition to fuel savings, AddSecure has helped Ahréns Åkeri gain better control over its fleet through advanced monitoring systems. Previously, the company used Scania Fleet, but since their fleet consists of several different brands, a solution was needed that worked for all vehicles. AddSecure provides a solution that covers not only trucks but also trailers and other types of vehicles.
“We needed a comprehensive solution that works regardless of what vehicle we’re using. AddSecure has provided exactly that – a platform that gives us a full overview of all our vehicles and helps us plan trips better,” says Thim.
Ahréns Åkeri’s future
With a strong focus on sustainability and innovation, Ahréns Åkeri is well-positioned for the future. The company sees electric trucks playing a major role in the transition to fossil-free transport, but the remaining challenges mainly involve charging infrastructure and the time it takes to charge vehicles along the way.
“We are ready for the future and look forward to continuing our journey together with our customers and partners, including AddSecure. Our goal is to continue growing and leading the development towards more sustainable transports in Northern Europe,” concludes Susanne.
